Assessment is in three parts:
Part 1 – a 1500 word evaluation of the critical success factors, advantages and disadvantages of interprofessional education.
Part 2 – a 1500 word analysis of an observed IPE education or training session, highlighting how relationships and dynamics function to support or inhibit learning ‘with, by and from’ other professionals and how (or whether) the facilitator used relevant methods to encourage IPL.
Both parts should be fully grounded in and referenced by relevant literature
Part 3 – a 300 word learning points – list of learning points and how and why you will use these in practice.
To answer part 2:
Below is one of the interprofessional education courses I used to teach:
I’m an assistant professor in the college of medicine at King Saud University (KSA) holding a BSc degree in biomedical sciences and an MSc and PhD degree in cardiovascular sciences. I’m teaching many courses in the college of medicine and college of applied medical sciences for both male and female students. For example, I’m teaching the respiratory pathophysiology course for male students specializing in respiratory therapy. This course consists of lectures and practical training and the duration of the course is15 weeks. At weeks 10 and 15, I teach the student about the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and many students from different specialities joined us during these two weeks. This is because treating and improving the quality of life of patients with COPD required not only the physician but also a multidisciplinary health care team consisting of health professions like physiotherapists to help the patient deal with disease symptoms and alleviate the shortness of breathing /dieticians to help the patient to manage weight / occupational therapists to help the patient to make his/her daily living easier, and respiratory therapists to help teach the patient about COPD, retrain patient breathing and teach the patient techniques to bring up mucus.
In these two weeks condense course I used to teach the students the essential knowledge in the first lecture (3 hours lecture) and divided the students into groups based on their speciality and asked them to prepare a PowerPoint presentation about their role in treating and improving the life quality of patient with COPD. So, in the second lecture (3 hours lecture) the student comes to present their job and explain their role in improving the quality of life of patients with COPD In front of other groups. At the end of this lecture, each speciality will learn about the importance and role of other specialities in treating and improving the life quality of patients with COPD.
